Black Jack ABC's - Part 2

We continue with our article on the essential details of Blackjack. In Part 1 we covered the approach of the game, taking another card, standing and how to double down. In part two we'll talk about splitting, surrendering and insurance.

Split: if a gambler is dealt two cards of the same amount (2 eights for instance) he may break them up to generate 2 different hands. If you choose to separate your hand you will have to lay a new wager equal to the original bet.

Surrender: Some casinos will allow players to surrender the cards they have been dealt along with fifty percent of the original wager they placed before the dealer checks his hand. Once again it is essential to ask the dealer for clarification on the table rules or check out the rules area on the web casino you're gambling on.

Insurance: When the croupiers exposed card is an Ace players have the chance to take out insurance. You will lay half of the original wager prior to the dealer looking at his cards; if the croupier has blackjack you will win the insurance bet but still lose the initial wager. Regrettably if the croupier doesn't have twenty-one the gambler loses the insurance. It is a risk but one that is well worth it, if used as part of a smart strategy.

As soon as a player has stayed or gone bust by going over 21 the croupier will show their hand and will go on to deal himself cards until 1 of the following events has happened: if he has surpassed 17, a croupier won't usually draw another card because of the likelihood of going bust, if they have drawn twenty-one or if they have busted.
